Kaile On Ice

Kaile and I did a Sunday morning run. The temp was -6 when we started. Thankfully there was no wind.

Here's a picture of how it feels. Note she's still smiling!

We're In Good Hands

I spent the last two days choosing the Class of 2015 for the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford.

If anyone doubts the quality of our young people today, take some time and meet some of them.

Based on the last 24 hours, our country and the future of medicine is going to be just fine.

A Tale Of Two Young People

I had two dramatically different feelings today.

Sunday started off with a cold run outside with Kaile. She ran absolutely great. Our run along the Rock River was amazing. It's so refreshing to hear about the positive things happening in her life.

Later in the morning Stephanie and I took Andrew back to the University of Iowa. I know it's the right place for him to be, but I love it when he comes home and I hate it when he leaves. I know it's one step closer to him being independent... and that's exactly as it should be.

That doesn't mean I have to like it.

We bought a couple of his books while we were there. Principles of Macroeconomics and Statistics for Business.

Yikes!

Tragedy and American Politics

As I'm hearing the news from Arizona about the shooting of Congress-Woman Gifford as well as others in Tuscon it makes me think of the remarkable response of the emergency medical personnel and the trauma team at the University of Arizona Medical Center.

All hospitals practice for mass casualty events. At KSB we call it Code 100. Multiple times each year we practice our protocols to get the proper personnel to the hospital in a timely manner. Each time we go through the drill I pray we never have to use it.

The hostile tone of American politics has to change. Political views differ, and that makes for healthy debate and policy, but in my lifetime the nature of the attacks has deepened, and that concerns me.

As Americans we are on the same team.

Viking Troubles

First the lowly Vikings break their lil' bubble, then they get their butts handed to them in a college stadium, now it's too snowy to play. Maybe instead of moving to the CFL they should be in the lingerie football league. I'm just sayin'.
